Project Overview

A self-service terminal is a multi-function terminal. It provides doctor appointment, ticketing, receipt and test results printing self-service to the patients. FNI’s design integrated various technologies with the hospital flow to make it simple and easy to operate. The looks and feel of the terminal allows it blend into the hospital harmoniously.

A list of flaws such as human-machine interface, hardware mechanism and layout were identified on the existing systems. Those flaws often caused paper jam, and the paper left behind problems. FNI’s design has addressed and resolved all the identified flaws and improve the overall satisfaction.

Industrial Design

We take the “modulization” and “integration” philosophy in designing the terminal. On Color Material and Finish (CMF), we carefully chose the metal, plastic, and glass material in medical white, blue, and dove grey color to build the terminal outer covering. We handled the surface finishing with silk screen spray printing. The finished terminal looks clean, smart, and tech-ish. It blends smoothly with the hospital environment.

On the terminal itself, we determined the proper man-machine interface and ideal hardware layout after completed the requirements and man-machine size analysis. We applied ergonomics principles to our design once we confirmed all the possible user postures.

A 43” interface touch panel is the highlight of the design. We have also enlarged the printout outlet to prevent paper jam and added light and voice reminder to reduce paper lost issues. On increasing the maintainability, we’ve added maintenance access both in the front and back of the terminal.
